Hi, I'm R.A. Murphy. I’ve been on the internet since the early days — I registered my first domain back in 1996.
I spent over 40 years as a Technologist; starting as a programmer for an insurance company and ending up as IT Director for a national financial services firm. I spent my career building systems and teaching others how they work.
But even after retiring, my curiosity kept me online. I happily invested time searching online for information, for learning opportunities, and for fascinating applications. I built websites and wrote how to books and courses. I was retired but still very active in the world online.
The online world grew exponentially. But as it got bigger and bigger, it became less and less reliable.
While the internet gives us access to everything, it doesn't always give us the truth. I found that more than half the information I found through search was inaccurate, outdated, or flat-out false.
I wanted to publish a newsletter online. A newsletter that would explore the intersections of modern technology and our daily lives. I knew there were significant impacts, but I wanted to be able to show them with verified information.
So, I ended up looking outside of tech. I studied the verification systems used by professional researchers and journalists—methods designed to winnow the truth from the noise—and applied them to the digital world.
Now I publish the newsletter as planned, confident it's accurate. But in the process I realized what I'd learned about research and verification could be of use to others.
That was the spark for this site. It offers information and learning opportunities for anyone needing to find verified information. Not just researchers, but marketers and business owners, and copywriters, and citizens' groups.
